Music

Bobby is a freelance musician, specialising in tuba, trombone, euphonium, bass trombone, arranging and singing.

Brass

Bobby studied tuba and bass trombone at Birmingham Conservatoire with Graham Sibley, David Gordon-Shute, Stuart Birnie, David Vines and Bob Hughes, where they were a finalist in the Birmingham Conservatoire Brass Prize, Bernard Brown Prize, and Diane Ambache Prize, being the only brass player to reach the latter. They were later awarded a music scholarship at Queen Mary, University of London where they studied tuba with Kevin Morgan.


As a young player they were Principal Tuba of the National Youth Wind Orchestra Of Great Britain (NYWO) and Principal Tuba of the City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra.


Professionally, they have performed with a variety of ensembles both as a brass player and a singer, including the Royal Shakespeare Company, Decibel Contemporary Music Group, Hackney Colliery Band, London Contemporary Voices, Trans-Siberian March Band, Riverside Brass and many others. Their work also includes recording for many pop artists and film composers including Nitin Sawnhey, Guy Chambers, The Hamiltons, Thomas Hamilton, Al Joshua, BBC’s Good Omens, Bandini and many others, and is a regular session musician for library albums. Venues have included Birmingham Symphony Hall, Birmingham Town Hall, Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Beautiful Days’ Festival, Boomtown Fair, Wilderness Festival and Saffron Walden’s 8 Day Weekend Festival. They have also recorded at Air Studios in Hampstead for a variety of projects.

Bobby regularly plays tuba and trombone with Hosen Brass Band, and has been seen playing on various TV and Radio broadcasts including Channel 4’s Hollyoaks, Don’t Tell The Bride, ITV's This Morning, various BBC Radio programmes and Free Radio Birmingham. They also run Something Different Entertainment's Shatterproof Brass Band, The Standard Duo and Owl Weekend.


In 2012 they performed the European Premier of Barbara York’s Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra ‘Wars and Rumors of War’ with Halesowen Symphony Orchestra, and regularly performs solo recitals.

Singing

Bobby is a bass singer and actor, and has a variety of acting and vocal training under their belt, having had private singing lessons with Kate Smith, Ed Staunton and private acting lessons with Dr Michael Fry.

In the academic year 2021-22 Bobby studied Musical Theatre at Associated Studios in London, having vocal lessons with Leontine Hass and Scott Harrison.

Professionally Bobby sings with London Contemporary Voices, including working with artists such as Nitin Sawnhey and John Grant where they were a backing vocalist for portions of their UK tours. They also sing with Owl Weekend Voices, and as a soloist specialising in Jazz and Musical Theatre.

Arranging

As well as performing, Bobby also works as an arranger and composer. Some of Bobby's arrangements have been published with Warwick Music and others performed by acts such as Hosen Brass, Owl Weekend, Mow The Brass, Trans-Siberian March Band, Shatterproof Brass and many others.
